Physical Mockup #2 in Fibreglass
Mockup No. 1 in Timbre
Constructed from new fibreglass layup for the body, Aluminum shoulder bearings, and fibreglass casts of the wooden legs from the previous mockup, Mockup No. 1 continued the evolution of the design.
Mockup No. 1 - Provenance
Cinema Alchemist by Roger Christian documents that he and carpenter Bill Harman constructed the Mockup No. 1
Mockup No. 1 - Ball Jointed Eye
The Mockup No. 1 is the first appearance of a Vickers Viscount reading lamp. This was a found aircraft reading lamp used for the ball joined eyes.
Mockup No. 1 - Reading Lamp Variant
Both the color, the shape of the cowling surface, and the shape of the cowling trim line of the Ball Jointed Eye on Mockup No. 1 match what looks like the earlier variant of the Vickers reading lamp. This would be an earlier version of the aircraft component that was delivered with "institutional green" zinc phosphate aircraft primer compared to the grey enamel paint over a chromate coating on the later stamped versions.
Mockup No. 1 - Feet
A change from the McQuarrie's Technical Drawing is the increase in height of the feet.
Mockup No. 1 - Diameter
The diameter of Mockup No. 1 appears to be larger than the McQuarrie Technical Drawing at 18-1/2"
Mockup No. 1 - Spacers
One noticeable change between the Technical Drawing and the Mockup No. 1 is the mounting of the Motor Enclosures. The technical drawing shows the Motor Enclosures mounted to the Legs while the Mockup No. 1 has the Enclosures mounted to the Foot. The position is kept the same with spacers added between the Foot and the Motor Enclosure.
